Major Exploration – LIL-120

Framing:

The Major Exploration assignment that we did for LIL 120 was a “scavenger hunt” like assignment where we went through resources to grab important information about our respective majors. For me, that was English, and I learned a lot about what my major had and didn’t have to offer. From jobs to the different concentrations offered, even all the way to the research options I am allowed to go into. Going through all of it, I remember being surprised by the amount of jobs that an English major could actually go into, even ones that I hadn’t ever thought of going into. All the concentrations made me think about what I wanted to do specifically with my English major, though I am still cemented into the writing concentration. The freedom of the research (and the fact I can do any at all) has been very interesting to me since I first learned of it. This assignment was pretty important because it helped base me into my major, helped ground me. I got to see my opportunities, and I got to see what I can make myself into with this major. I believe this shows how I as a person and a student in the English Major sees his own major, not as just a degree to hang on a wall but as a tangible object, one with a real meaning to me.

This part of the Major Exploration was all about reading through the UNE website to find information specific to the English Major.
This part of the Major Exploration had us looking at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and from this I pulled a lot of good information about jobs that I might be able to go into with my major in English.
