LEARNING OUTCOME 5&6

For my Project #2 essay, I was able to properly cite the quotes I used throughout using the proper MLA format thanks to the learning we did in class. We were also able to use the “They Say/ I Say” book source for help on with MLA as well.

For instance, in this quote, after typing it all out, the formatting is correct, with the quotation marks on the left side of the parentheses and the period on the right side. Within the parentheses I correctly cited the page numbers. Before and after the quote I also accurately depicted who the quote is from.

Having the ability to correctly indent the beginnings of paragraphs is another step in the MLA format. In this screenshot, I show that I know how to indent each of my paragraphs and how far indented they need to be. Not only that, it shows off other, more simple MLA formatting skills, such as correct spacing between lines and the correct amount of space between punctuations. It even shows how to properly add quotation marks into the middle of a sentence, with “Google” being marked.

Also for formatting quotes correctly, I am also able to demonstrate my ability on how and when to block a quote. For instance, during my first body paragraph, I bring in a longer sized quote that goes past 4 lines. In this context, I had to block the quote with an indent for the whole quote, which is seen in the screenshot below.

Throughout my revisions of this essay, I also focused on fixing grammatical errors, sentence level errors, and other typical errors during local revision. For instance, from my 400-500 word draft, I used the incorrect version of the word “effect/affect”, and then during my final draft I made sure to revise it to the correct version, that being “affect”.

This helps to showcase my growing ability within the MLA format and that I have the proper control over my ability to find and revise any sentence level errors, such as punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
